Mandaue to extend P1M aid, deploy psychological team to earthquake-hit areas

Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano has pledged P1 million in cash assistance to each of the local government units (LGUs) hardest hit by the 6.9-magnitude earthquake in northern Cebu.

Ouano said the funds will come from the city’s PAGCOR allocation and will be distributed to Bogo City—the quake’s epicenter—and the municipalities of Tabogon, Borbon, Medellin, and San Remigio.

He clarified that only LGUs which have submitted situational reports will receive aid.

“Ang uban pa man gud nga mga LGUs wala pa mi kakita ba pila kabuok families ang affected,” Ouano explained.

The allocation, however, is still subject to approval by the Mandaue City Council.

Each LGU will get the same amount, which the mayor described as Mandaue’s way of standing in solidarity with quake victims.

“Ang amo lang, our own little way of helping sa atong mga kaigsuonan diri sa Sugbo,” he said.
