LTFRB-7 sets hearing on 600 e-taxis in Cebu

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Central Visayas will hold a public hearing on Thursday, December 18, at 10:30 a.m. on the application of Green and Smart Mobility Philippines Inc. to operate 600 air-conditioned electric taxi units in Cebu City and other parts of the Visayas.

The hearing will be conducted at the LTFRB-7 office amid concerns raised by the United Cebu Taxi Operators Association (UCTOA), which questioned the Board’s move to allow the entry of the proposed taxi units allegedly without prior consultation or a public hearing involving affected stakeholders.
UCTOA, which represents more than 300 taxi operators and around 6,200 franchise holders in Cebu, said it strongly opposes the issuance of the 600 units as additional franchises. The group warned that this would worsen the oversupply of taxis and threaten the livelihood of existing operators and drivers.
