As per a report in this newspaper, a total of 5,688 applications for registration have been processed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Central Visayas on the first day of voter registration for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections last August 1.

In Cebu alone, there were 5,483 applications recorded. The registration will run until August 10.

"To all new regular voters turning 18 and youth turning 15 this time, I encourage you to avail of the registration period provided by Comelec because the upcoming election is for you... Be counted and be part of the electorate that will shape our community development and progress," said Comelec regional director Francisco Pobe.

Yes, go out and register. Even the young should become aware of the duty to vote.
