DOST-FNRI unveils CV nutrition survey results

The state of food, nutrition, and health in Central Visayas took center stage as the Department of Science and Technology Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) presented the findings of the 2023 National Nutrition Survey (NNS) during a Regional Dissemination Forum held recently in Cebu City.

Covering all life – stages, from pregnant and lactating women to infants, school-age children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly—the survey offered a comprehensive snapshot of the region’s nutritional and health status.
Key indicators revealed trends in food consumption, the prevalence of undernutrition and overnutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and lifestyle-related health risks. Officials emphasized that while longstanding issues such as malnutrition and food insecurity persist, new challenges are emerging, including rising rates of obesity and noncommunicable diseases.
