DOST-7 launches 'Blue Economy' initiative

With a strong focus on unlocking the economic potential of marine biodiversity, the Department of Science and Technology in Central Visayas (DOST-7) officially launched its “Blue Economy” initiative during the 2025 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) held yesterday, April 23.

DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. emphasized the agency's commitment to science-based solutions that empower local communities through research and development, particularly in marine-rich areas such as Central Visayas.
“With its rich marine biodiversity, vibrant fisheries, and critical ecosystems, Central Visayas is at the heart of the archipelago, and now taking the lead in developing a science, technology, and innovation-driven Blue Economy that is resilient, inclusive, and climate-smart,” said Solidum Jr.
The region’s Blue Economy Agenda aims to promote advancements in intelligent aquaculture systems, sustainable tourism, ocean-based biotechnology, and climate resilience.
