Dizon: Flood project built before my term

Congresswoman Emmarie "Lolypop" Ouano Dizon said that the collapsed flood control structure in Barangay Paknaan was not implemented under her term but during the previous administration.

A 15-meter portion of that flood control project collapsed on August 25.

In an official statement released yesterday, Dizon pointed out that the project was “conceived, funded, and awarded in 2019 under the congressman who later ascended as city mayor until 2024,” referring to former mayor Jonas Cortes.

"Truth must stand unbent: accountability lies where authorship resides. DPWH, as custodian of execution and oversight, must answer," she stressed.

She said the collapsed structure was a legacy of the past administration and, therefore, its responsibility.

"History cannot be absolved—this failure is the offspring of the past, and the weight of accountability is theirs to bear," she said.

Despite this, she called for unity rather than political bickering, urging stakeholders to set aside finger-pointing and work together to resolve flooding in Mandaue.
