DepEd, LGUs join efforts to ensure safe learning spaces in disaster areas

The Department of Education (DepEd) and local government units (LGUs) are stepping up joint efforts to restore safe learning spaces and to ensure swift support for schools, teachers, and students in disaster-hit communities.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara stressed the importance of local coordination in achieving learning continuity and protecting school communities, echoing President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s call during a recent site visits.

“Mahalaga sa atin na laging katuwang natin ang ating mga LGU sa paghahatid ng tulong at pag-asa sa ating mga kababayan. Sa bawat sakuna, kailangang sabay-sabay tayong bumangon—DepEd, LGU, guro, at mga magulang,” Angara said.

DepEd reported that more than 5,000 schools across various regions were impacted by recent earthquakes including Cebu, underscoring the urgency of preparedness and local coordination.
