DepEd launches new tools for education resilience

The Department of Education (DepEd) announced it has intensified its disaster preparedness and response measures by deploying rapid assessment teams and launching new tools and facilities aimed at strengthening education resilience.

"Under the directive of President Bongbong Marcos, our focus is on preparedness. We must ensure that our schools are ready to respond in order to protect students and continue education before, during, and after any disaster," said Education Secretary Sonny Angara, in a statement.
These efforts were initiated following the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck northern Cebu last September 30, 2025.
DepEd 7 Director Salustiano Jimenez said the earthquake caused an estimated damage of over P1 billion to schools across Cebu. More than 50,000 students and over 1,400 teachers and personnel were affected, including nearly 900 in Bogo City alone.
While disaster response operations continue, DepEd is also preparing long-term disaster preparedness initiatives.
