The agriculture and fisheries sector in Central Visayas grew by 5.2 percent in 2024 at constant 2018 prices, with total production valued at P63.15 billion, the Philippine Statistics Authority in Central Visayas (PSA-7) reported during its regional data dissemination forum on the 2024 Performance of Agriculture and Fisheries in Central Visayas yesterday.
At current prices, the sector posted a faster 7.9 percent growth, reaching P88.51 billion.
Performance across subsectors was mixed. Crops contracted by 0.9 percent at constant prices but still gained 12.3 percent at current prices, reaching P18.48 billion. Livestock dropped by 11.7 percent at constant prices and 2.0 percent at current prices, totaling P34.57 billion. Poultry surged by 24.1 percent at constant prices and 14.0 percent at current prices, amounting to P28.11 billion. Fisheries was the top performer, expanding by 44.5 percent at constant prices and 30.6 percent at current prices, valued at P7.35 billion.
PSA-7 chief statistical specialist Engr. Leopoldo Alfanta Jr. said the gains in fisheries and poultry offset the declines in crops and livestock, allowing the sector to close 2024 on a positive note.
