Christian-centered celebrations over Halloween parties pushed

He noted that more faithful, including bishops, are now inspired to move away from the “Halloween-halloween” tradition that promotes fear and darkness.

Uy reminded the faithful of the original meaning of “Halloween,” which comes from “hallow,” meaning holy.

“It was originally held on the evening before All Saints’ Day. But because of worldly practices and foreign influences, people have learned to associate it with ghosts and frightening figures,” he explained.

While acknowledging that many people view Halloween as harmless fun for children, Archbishop Uy warned that such activities can have a deeper spiritual impact.

“Pero mga igsoon akoa lang ipasabot nga makasabot lang pud ta nga duna baya nay epekto sa ilalom sa mga bata. Pagka daghan mga bata motoo og tiaw-tiaw unya kinsay nasayod noh unsay gibati sa yawa nga gisundog sa atong mga anak, lipay pud ang yawa oi, nag ngisi pud. Ti-aw mo ba na gisundog sila sa mga bata, mga demonyo lipay oi. Mao na atong likayan,” he said.

The prelate added, “ang atong lipayon ang atong Ginoo ug ang mga balaang tawo, maoy atong sundugon, maoy atong isundog sa mga kabataan.”
