Change: The Essence of Life
The Freeman
|March 22, 2026
The saying “Nothing is permanent in this world except change” is a great and profound reminder that we all should spend our days steering clear from dwelling in frustration — well aware that nothing lasts forever.
Emotions are subject to change, like the flow and ebbs of the waves and the sea. True, there are intense feelings, but with the passage of time, these emotions change over time.
Having said this, we have to shield ourselves from needless hurt or pain by accepting that nothing lasts forever but the impermanence of life - especially in disappointing situations.
Like with how some aging parents feel about their children's love and affection - particularly when the warm treatment of their children - as they grow into adulthood - changes from what it used to be when they were children.
Such individuals would feel that they are no longer a part of their children's lives - designated as background characters. This kind of treatment is truly hurtful, with some lamenting the way they raised their kids, asking “what went wrong?”
