BBM and DDS' Ardennes Offensive
The Freeman
|December 18, 2025
Not many of us might have read about the last major German military effort during World War II called the Ardennes Offensive.
I had to mention that great battle here, in this article today because, coincidentally, it started on December 16, 1944 or 81 years ago the other day. When I checked the internet for my own refresher of history, I found out that it was a surprise German blitzkrieg through the Ardennes Forest aimed to split Allied forces, creating a "bulge" in their lines. For that very military objective, that particular clash was also called the Battle of the Bulge.
BBM and DDS' Ardennes Offensive Candidly, I was trying to retrieve comparative historical data on the American Office of Strategic Services (OSS) which gathered information, conducted sabotage, and supported resistance against Axis powers and the German Operation Greif which fielded English-speaking commandos disguised in U.S. uniforms and vehicles to sow chaos and spread disinformation. The latter were considered saboteurs of the worst kind. While their sabotage acts of taking advantage of clandestinity, surprise and ruses were permissible conduct in war, they only indicated the hopelessness of their situation.
