SURPRISE DRUG TEST
-
At least seven individuals tested positive for illegal drug use during a surprise drug test conducted among more than 200 public transportation drivers and personnel at the Cebu South and North Bus Terminals in Cebu City yesterday, October 29, as part of the preparations for Kalag-Kalag 2025.
The drug test was part of the "Oplan Harabas: Project Undaspot" initiative led by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-7 (PDEA-7) and the Land Transportation Office-7 (LTO-7). A total of 279 individuals underwent testing to determine possible drug involvement.
Based on final results, the drug test covered 151 bus drivers, 86 conductors, 18 taxi drivers, 12 terminal security guards, six terminal administrative staff, four motorcycle taxi drivers, and two van-for-hire drivers.
PDEA-7 confirmed that seven individuals tested positive two taxi drivers and a bus driver from the North Bus Terminal, and two security guards, a minibus driver, and a conductor from the South Bus Terminal.
Those who screened positive will undergo confirmatory testing, according to PDEA-7.
PDEA-7 Regional Director Joel Plaza said the individuals found positive will be barred from operating vehicles and will be referred for assessment and intervention.
"Ang mga nag-positive dili gyud sila maka-biyahe kay naa may authority ang atong Land Transportation Office to confiscate yung ano (license)," said Plaza, adding that it will be up to the operators to provide replacement drivers.
