2 men blamed for robberies fall

Two armed men who were allegedly involved in a series of robberies in Talisay City and Minglanilla on August 13 were arrested in a joint hot pursuit operation in Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City, last Saturday morning.

The suspects were identified as Christopher Caparida Deiparine, 36, and his nephew Mark Anthony Caparida Caballero, 25, both residents of Barangay Linao in Talisay City.

In a press conference last Monday, Cebu Police Provincial Office provincial director Police Colonel Christopher Bermudez, Talisay City Police Station (TCPS) chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Maila Maramag, and Minglanilla Municipal Police Station (MCPS) chief Police Major Arieza Atida said it was found out that the incidents in both areas were also connected with those in Mandaue City, confirming that the incident involved a robbery in tandem.

Atida said the first robbery incident took place in Minglanilla, where it was initially reported through social media, not through a formal police report.

"The incident proliferated through social media. So, we conducted a followup investigation as to this one, considering that the victim had not reported immediately to the station," Atida told the reporters.

She added that police personnel from MCPS launched separate followup operations with the coordination of TCPS and MCPS.
