A bench of CJI BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran asked UP, Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab, along with CAQM and CPCB, to fill vacancies in their pollution control boards within three months.
It granted six months for filling promotional posts but made it clear that in the meantime, appointments should be made on a deputation or contractual basis to deal with the upcoming pollution crisis.
