Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a sharp rebuke to what it described as an expanding culture of indiscriminate welfare giveaways, observing that the time had come to revisit policies that could impede economic growth and fiscal — stability.Hearing a plea linked to the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd, which proposed free electricity for all consumers regardless of income, a bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, alongside Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi, said targeted support for the poor was understandable but blanket concessions raised serious concerns.
