In a new twist to the ongoing suicide saga of Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, an ASI of the state police, Sandeep Lathar, was found dead after reportedly shooting himself with his service revolver at Ladhot village in Rohtak district on Tuesday afternoon.

- Rajesh Moudgil

Tension prevailed in parts of Rohtak and Jind districts after members of the Jat community allegedly seized the body of Lathar and refused to cremate, demanding the arrest of IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar, the wife of Puran Kumar.

Lathar was said to be part of the Rohtak police team that had arrested IGP Puran Kumar's aide, Sushil, an ex-ASI, on corruption charges following a complaint lodged by liquor contractor Praveen Bansal on October 6, a day before Kumar's death.

Superintendent of Police, Rohtak, Surendra Bhoria, said that Lathar, who was posted in the cyber cell, was known to be an honest and hardworking officer. He confirmed that an investigation has been initiated into the case.
