Centre faces charge of bias over Wayanad aid

Congress general secretary and Lok Sabha MP K. C. Venugopal has charged the Union government with discriminating against Kerala by approving only 2260.56 crore of the 22,219 crore sought for reconstruction in landslide-hit Wayanad.

- HD Bureau

He highlighted that, by contrast, Maharashtra secured 21,492 crore in 2024 and Assam was granted 21,270 crore this year for flood relief works.

Venugopal’s accusation came after a high-level home ministry panel sanctioned 2260.56 crore under the National Disaster Response Fund for Wayanad’s reconstruction, rejecting much of the demand put forth by the Kerala government. He demanded that the Centre address the issue through dialogue in the disaster-affected areas.
