Villagers gathered outside the Nallur police station on Wednesday after five social activists were taken in for questioning over their involvement in the campaign against garbage dumping in the Mudalipalayam and Nallur stone quarries near Tiruppur.
The crowd swelled through the morning as residents demanded clarity on the detention and pressed for action against what they described as years of mismanagement that had contaminated their water sources and damaged the local environment.
