Indian-origin Democrat businessman Singh Swarnjit has created history by becoming the first Sikh to be elected mayor in Connecticut, winning the mayoral race in the city of Norwich.

Swarnjit secured 3,978 votes (57.25%), defeating Republican rival Stacy Gould, who received 2,828 votes (40.7%). His campaign focused on revitalising Norwich, attracting manufacturing, and easing the tax burden on residents.
