Posing as officer from CMO, ‘con’ cheats bizman of ₹2.80cr

A Marine Drive-based_businessman has filed an FIR at LT Marg police station alleging that four persons cheated him of nearly Rs2.80 crore by posing as officials connected to the Chief Minister’s Office.

The complainant, 57-year-old Shailesh Jain, owns JK Jewellers in Kalbadevi.

According to the FIR, the fraud began in January 2024 when a man named Birju Salla introduced Shailesh to Vaibhav Thakkar, claiming he was a Class-I officer working in the CMO. In February, Vaibhav visited the jewellery store and said he urgently needed Rs20 lakh to stop his transfer and Shailesh transferred the amount.
