Monsoon bids adieu to Mumbai, earliest withdrawal in 7 years

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that the southwest monsoon withdrew from parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, on October 10. This marks the earliest withdrawal in the last seven years. Before that period, in 2018, the wet weather receded from Mumbai on October 6.

The IMD had forecast a delay in monsoon withdrawal, however, the change in weather systems did not result in any rain spells in the region for the last two days.

“This year, the Colaba observatory recorded 2263 mm total rainfall, while its Santacruz counterpart saw 3112 mm rains,” said IMD Mumbai scientist Sushma Nair.
