INSIDE THE SHHENA BORA MURDER CASE | Secrets, lies and legal battles Trial nears conclusion after a decade of twists & contradictions

The trial in the Sheena Bora murder case is nearing its conclusion, with the prosecution completing the examination of almost all crucial witnesses.
Now, only the investigating officers remain to testify. In the decade since the case was lodged, the trial has raised more questions than it has answered.
The murder plot
Sheena is said to have been killed on April 24, 2012, allegedly by her mother, Indrani Mukerjea, her driver Shyamwar Rai, and her exhusband Sanjeev Khanna. According to the prosecution, Indrani had asked Sheena to meet her that evening, and she was last seen with Indrani.
The prosecution's case is that Sheena, introduced to everyone as Indrani's younger sister, was in a relationship with Indrani's stepson Rahul Mukerjea - son of Peter Mukerjea from his previous marriage. The two were in a live-in relationship, which, according to the prosecution, was unacceptable to Indrani.
As per the prosecution, Sheena took a half day's leave from work to meet Indrani. Rahul allegedly dropped her near National College, Bandra, where Indrani waited with Rai and Khanna. The two are said to have strangled Sheena in one of the bylanes near National College. The next day, the trio allegedly packed her body in a suitcase, disposed of it in Pen, Raigad district, and set it on fire. The Raigad police noted the incident but did not probe further.
