ED makes third arrest in Reliance Power 'fake' bank guarantee case

A day after issuing summons to industrialist Anil Ambani, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday arrested Amar Nath Dutta, a Kolkata-based consultant, in its money-laundering probe linked to Reliance Power Ltd.

Dutta's arrest is the third in the case involving a forged bank guarantee worth Rs68 crore, allegedly submitted by Reliance NU BESS Ltd, a Reliance Power subsidiary, to the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).

Earlier this week, the ED had attached immovable assets worth Rs7,500 crore belonging to Anil Ambani Group companies. Dutta was produced before a Delhi court on November 6 and remanded to ED custody till November 10.

The case stems from an FIR filed last year by SECI with the Delhi Police's Economic Offences Wing, alleging submission of forged bank guarantees to secure a renewable energy project.
