Chakan residents, firms hold protest march to PMRDA office

Chakan residents and industrialists organised a protest march on Thursday, accusing the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) of neglecting long-pending infrastructure issues despite repeated assurances.

The protesters alleged that although PMRDA claims to have initiated projects worth hundreds of crores, little work is visible on the ground.

Protesters said that despite repeated appeals, roads in Chakan remain narrow and overburdened by heavy industrial traffic. They alleged that road expansion and development works begin only before elections.

They claimed that more than 1,700 people have died in road accidents in the Chakan area.

Traffic-Free Chakan Action Committee organised the 23km march from Sangramdurg Fort to PMRDA office in Akurdi.
