Bizman held by CIU in walnut import fraud

In a case of fraudulent import of walnuts involving forged shipping documents and fake declarations, the Central Intelligence Unit (CIU) of the Jawaharlal Nehru Custom House (JNCH), Nhava Sheva, has arrested a Surat-based businessman for allegedly causing a duty loss of more than ₹31.48 crore to the government exchequer.

Customs sources said the case was detected after specific intelligence was received about walnuts cleared through Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT). A probe at the premises of a Mumbai-based company led to the seizure of forged transit Bills of Lading, which allegedly showed fake trans-shipments from Bandar Abbas Port in Iran to Jebel Ali Port in the UAE.
