Pressure has mounted not only from the Left but also from within the Congress itself
Vehicular traffic on the Thamarassery Ghat stretch of National Highway 766 has been suspended once more after fresh landslips near the ninth hairpin bend tonight, with heavy vehicles barred and only emergency services permitted past sealed entry points. Flooding rains have destabilised the slope above the Churam View Point, sending boulders, mud and debris tumbling onto road.
CPM state secretary M V Govindan has labelled the Congress response of suspending Rahul Mamkootathil, accused of sexual misconduct, from the party as an "eyewash" and urged the Mamkootathil to step down as an MLA immediately.
