SC rejects another SIR extension

The Supreme Court declined a request from the Kerala government and _ several political parties for a further two-week extension of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in the state, allowing only a short extension lasting two days.

A Bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Jomaiya Bagchi rejected the state’s plea to push the deadline beyond the existing schedule, which the Election Commission of India had already extended to December 18.

The court said the matter would be reviewed afresh on that date but refused immediate approval of a long extension.
