Tamil Nadu should engage directly with the Centre on its demand to retain the two--language policy instead of framing the issue through public discourse, the Supreme Court said on Tuesday while hearing a petition linked to land allocation for new Central schools that will follow the three-language formula.

The observation came from a two-judge bench comprising Justice BV Nagarathna and Justice Augustine George Masih, which was examining a challenge related to the provision of land for Kendriya Vidyalayas in the state. During the hearing, the bench cautioned against turning administrative and policy disagreements into broader linguistic disputes, underlining the need for cooperative federalism.
