Pet owners fume as AMC hikes dog registration fee

Owning a pet dog in Ahmedabad just got a lot more expensive.

The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has increased the registration fee for pet dogs to %2,000 per animal, a nearly 900% jump from the earlier 7200. The new rates, effective from October 1, make it mandatory for all dog owners to register their pets under AMC’ Rabies-Free Ahmedabad City 2030 initiative.

With nearly 50,000 pet dogs estimated in the city, only 18,596 have been registered so far, according to AMC records. Corporation officials have warned that notices will be issued to defaulters and house-to-house inspections will be carried out to identify unregistered pets.
