Court clears govt bulk messaging

The Kerala High Court on Tuesday dismissed petitions challenging the circulation of unsolicited bulk messages that highlighted the achievements of the State government, ruling that the communication did not violate privacy rights or constitute unlawful political messaging ahead of the Assembly elections.

The judgment was delivered by Justice Bechu Ku-rian Thomas, who concluded that the messages sent to government employees and others could be regarded as a legitimate administrative communication rather than an improper campaign. The court observed that the information conveyed largely related to salary revisions, allowances and other service benefits, which could reasonably be treated as official updates from the administration to its workforce.
