Bhiwandi civic body slammed for shielding illegal structures

HC shocked over decade-long inaction despite earlier orders

The Bombay High Court has come down heavily on the civic bodies for “deep slumber” and “lawlessness” in allowing illegal constructions to mushroom despite multiple judicial directions over the years.

“..something is fundamentally going wrong,” the court noted.

The bench of Justices Girish Kulkarni and Aarti Sathe noted recently, “We observe that it is a matter of routine affair for the officers of the municipal corporation not to take action against illegal constructions and only when the proceedings are brought before the court, the municipal machinery is activated.”
