Minister asserts draft new labour laws only on paper

The government has drafted state-level laws to align with the four central labour codes but has taken no further action to implement them, Labour Minister V.

Sivankutty confirmed.He explained that though the state prepared these drafts in compliance with directives issued during the pan-India meeting of labour secretaries, the legislation remains inactive.

He said that framing draft laws was only the first step; implementation requires approval by the state government, scrutiny by a legislative committee and public consultation — processes that remain pending. The draft status remains unchanged: “Not even an inch has been moved,” he said.
