Metro stoppage leaves commuters stranded in tunnel

A metro train on the Blue Line of Chennai Metro came to an abrupt stop inside the underground tunnel between Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M. G. Ramachandran Central Metro Station and High Court Station early on Tuesday, foreing over a hundred passengers to walk nearly 500 metres along the track to safety.

Lights inside the carriage cut out within the tunnel, leaving many commuters stranded temporarily in darkness before an announcement directed them to exit and proceed on foot. Metro authorities said the halt resulted from a technical fault, possibly a power failure, and assured passengers that the train was promptly withdrawn from the line before regular services resumed around 6.20 a.m.
