Congress' strategic move aims to bolster Jat support and challenge BJP's stronghold in Haryana

Vinesh, Bajrang Punia set to enter political ring

As anticipated, wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia are set to step into the political ring as Congress candidates in the upcoming Haryana elections. Their recent meeting with party leader Rahul Gandhi has put to rest months of speculation, signalling their imminent entry into electoral politics.

As per the sources the Congress Central Election Committee(CEC) is expected to clear their names soon, signalling the party's intent to capitalise on the duo's popularity and consolidate Jat votes.

Political observers believe that the entry of wrestlers, who became the faces of the prolonged protests in Delhi against former BJP MP and Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in 2023, is likely to intensify the already keenly watched contest in Haryana.
