Union Minister of State for Education and former Bengal BJP president, Sukanta Majumdar, faced a violent episode on Wednesday night when his convoy was allegedly attacked in Nabadwip, Nadia district, West Bengal, heightening tensions in the politically charged State.

- SUPROTIM MUKHERJEE

The incident unfolded around 9 p.m. as Majumdar’s convoy was passing through the crowded Nabadwip bus stand after a day packed with party programmes and public events in the district.

According to Majumdar, who recently led a protest against alleged police highhandedness during local religious events, the attack was carried out by “local TMC workers” when two vehicles in his convoy lagged behind and attempted to make a turn. The vehicles were vandalised, and at least two BJP leaders suffered injuries in the violence.
