SC panel holds talks with protesting farmers
The Daily Guardian
|November 05, 2024
In a significant development in the ongoing farmers' agitation, a Supreme Court-appointed committee held its first meeting with a group of farmers and representatives from the Haryana and Punjab governments.
The meeting took place against the backdrop of persistent protests at the Shambhu Border, where farmers have been demonstrating since February 13. Their primary demands include a guaranteed Minimum Support Price (MSP) and loan waivers.
Notably, the meeting was attended by 12 farmer leaders, including those associated with the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, led by Jagjit Singh Dallewal. However, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political), headed by Sarvan Singh Pandher, chose not to participate, reflecting ongoing divisions within the farmers' factions. Dallewal was also not present in the meeting due to health issues.
