The Pushkar Fair, also known as the Pushkar Camel Fair or Pushkar Mela, is one of the largest and most vibrant livestock fairs in the world.
Held annually in Pushkar, Rajasthan, it spans a week between October and November and brings together thousands of visitors, traders, and livestock. Apart from the commercial trading of camels, horses, and cattle, the fair has a strong cultural and spiritual significance, drawing thousands of pilgrims and tourists each year.
The primary attraction of the Pushkar Fair is its livestock trading, which includes the buying and selling of camels, horses, cattle, and other animals. This year, the fair has seen an influx of rare and valuable animals, with several noteworthy arrivals stealing the spotlight.
A highlight of this year's fair is the arrival of Badal, a 5-year-old horse valued at a staggering Rs11 crore. Badal, known for his exceptional pedigree, has fathered 285 pups, which has significantly increased his value. However, his owner, Rahul, has made it clear that Badal is not for sale, even at such a high price. Another standout arrival is Shabaaz, a prized horse from Punjab valued at Rs15 crore. Shabaaz, who has already won six shows, is a major attraction at the fair, with a breeding fee of Rs2 lakh.
In addition to these high-value animals, the fair also saw the arrival of an 800-kilogram Murrah buffalo from Bikaner, valued at Rs10 lakh. The fair grounds are packed with breeders and traders, most of whom are staying in luxury tents, surrounded by expensive cars parked outside their accommodations.
