Protesting doctors finally hold meeting with Mamata
The Daily Guardian
|September 17, 2024
Less than 24 hours before the Chief Justice's Bench takes up the RG Kar rape and murder case in the Supreme Court, agitating junior doctors and the State Government broke the stalemate and held a two-hour meeting at the residence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Government sources said that the Chief Minister had "in principle" agreed to all the hospital infrastructure development-related demands of the junior doctors.
There was no word about whether the Government would accept the other demands of the junior doctors which related to the removal of the city police chief and the Health Secretary and other senior Health Department officials and punishment for two Deputy Commissioners of Kolkata Police.
A team of 34 junior doctors, accompanied by two stenographers, held talks with the West Bengal Chief Minister over their five-point demands, including justice for their colleague who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Hospital in August.
