CJI B.R. Gavai recommends justice Surya Kant as his successor

Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai has formally recommended the name of Justice Surya Kant as his successor, initiating the process for the appointment of the next Chief Justice of India.
Justice Gavai will demit office on November 23, 2025, upon attaining the age of 65. Following established procedure, the Union Ministry of Law and Justice had written to CJI Gavai seeking his recommendation for the next head of the judiciary.
