Can President Trump Take Russia-Ukraine War Towards End?
The Daily Guardian
|August 25, 2025
This week, the global community's focus remained on Trump, as his discussions with Putin in Alaska last week aimed at concluding the Russia-Ukraine war did not culminate in a truce announcement, as he had asserted.
US President Trump expressed his conviction that his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, was willing to bring an end to Russia's conflict with Ukraine. Nevertheless, he also indicated that achieving peace would likely require at least a second meeting that includes Ukraine's president.
Therefore, I mentioned in my previous column that it is highly unlikely that a truce announcement would follow the discussions between Putin and Trump, and my prediction has proven right. Following his talks with Putin, Trump has now accepted an invitation to visit Russia for further discussions aimed at bringing the war to a conclusion. Trump characterized this meeting as 'very successful,' despite the absence of a truce announcement. He also conveyed that he does not believe in any ceasefire and is committed to ending the war.
After his meeting in Alaska, Trump also communicated with Zelenskyy; however, thus far, there have been no tangible outcomes. This devastating war has led to hundreds of thousands of casualties and significant destruction for both nations. Additionally, this conflict has had a profound impact on the global economy and political landscape. The entire world yearns for an end to the war; however, to this day, this objective has not been achieved.
