THE owner of Penzance’s Wharfside shopping centre has come under fire from a resident of the town who says unreliable lifts and escalators are making life a misery for customers and occupants of the building.

The centre, pictured, overlooks the harbour and is home to a variety of independent businesses including a surf and skate shop, an arts hub, a sweet shop, a bistro, a hair salon and a handful of restaurants and cafés.

It also contains dozens of residential units on an upper floor.

A renovation programme has seen several new traders moving in, but the building has been plagued by problems with escalators and lifts.

Ruth Smith contacted The Cornishman to say the issue had been going on for weeks and was particularly distressing for the people who lived in the 36 flats above the shopping mall.
