DAMAGE has been caused to a historic shipwreck off the south coast by fishing equipment which was illegally placed on the protected site.

HMS Coronation, a 90-gun second-rate ship of the line, sank off Rame Head in 1691 during a gale.
It is estimated that some 600 sailors, including her captain, died after she was driven ashore in Lady Cove, west of Penlee Point.
The Protection of Wrecks Act 1973 prohibits any activity which could damage, obscure or interfere with the remains, which are in two parts, one inshore and one offshore.
