Joburg municipality's worries have been given breathing room, but City Power's ledger is still swollen. Eskom's threat to cut Johannesburg's power sent residents into a panic as they voiced their opinions about being punished despite paying their bills.

To bridge the gap temporarily, Minister of Electricity and Energy Kgosientsho Ramokgopa brokered a R1.4 billion payment, to be paid month end, from the city to the power utility.

The City of Joburg's municipal footprint is split into eight regions - A to G - with City Power operating eight service delivery centres, formerly known as depots.

While the service delivery centres lightly mirror their respective regions, there is some overlap, most notably with areas close to the CBD.

In their public notice issued last Friday, Eskom cited four substations that were targeted for "termination or disconnection".
