Weather puts damper on racing

COST: WET TRACKS ON HIGHVELD AND KZN HAVE RESULTED IN THREE LOST MEETINGS
Overall, it's been a very quiet week for me, as we have lost a number of meetings due to the persistent rain.
We will hopefully race on Sunday, after losing our local Tuesday and Thursday fixtures as well as the KZN meeting on Wednesday, but we will need the weather to let up for a while in order for the tracks to dry.
In saying the above, horses would not have been able to do their normal work now for the week, so it's essential to look for horses that have fitness on their sides, and this could assist in finding winners.
Racing tomorrow takes place at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth and the headliner on the card is the Grade 1 SplashOut Cape Derby, where we see superstar three-year-old colt and WSB Cape Met winner Eight On Eighteen take his place.
This meeting generally brings the Cape Town season to a close and although we see a small field assembled for this Grade 1, the racing has been phenomenal in the Cape throughout the season and I'm sure it will end with a bang.
As far as the Derby (Race 7) is concerned Eight On Eighteen looks to be a proverbial good thing after his superb win in the Met.
That was a performance out of the top drawer and it is almost impossible to see any of the other three-year-olds matching him, so he is a banker in all bets on the day and I'll be disappointed if he doesn't win well.
I think Garrix is the Exacta horse after finally getting a decent draw, and he looks to be a very progressive and lovely horse.
Race 8 is the Grade 2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes over 1100m and we see champion sprinter Gimme A Prince take his place after the demolition job he performed when storming to victory by just under six lengths in the Grade 1 Cape Flying Championship last time out.
There is no secret he is a horse with issues, but now he is racing fit it's almost impossible to look past him, and I think he is one of the best bets on the card and a banker in all bets.
