FOOTWEAR: ADIDAS ORIGINALS, HEY DUDE HIT THE SPOT

- Thami Kwazi

Pop culture meets comfort

I discovered the Italian shoe brand Hey Dude walking around Menlyn Mall with sore feet. Spotting a small store with interesting-looking sneakers, I popped in hoping to get an affordable pair.

It was the right choice. The shoes were light and well-balanced at the sole while looking funky and fun.

When it comes to feet, comfort is key, and I haven't looked back since while constantly checking what the brand that was introduced in the summer of 2008 by two Italian footwear experts, Alessandro and Dario, is up to.

For lovers of both fashion and film, there's no doubt that pop culture and style are more intertwined than ever.

This summer, one trend is sweeping through the scene, blending iconic movie moments and nostalgic style statements with innovative comfort and a modern edge.

Leading this charge are two powerhouse brands, Hey Dude and Adidas Originals, each paying tribute to cultural icons through must-have collections that bring past inspiration into the present.

Reliving the 'Mean Girls' magic with Hey Dude

When Lindsay Lohan graced the big screen as Cady Heron in Mean Girls, her portrayal resonated with women and girls everywhere.

The movie quickly achieved cult status, thanks to its witty lines, unforgettable characters, and all-too-relatable high school dynamics.

Now, 20 years later, Mean Girls continues to hold a special place in pop culture, with fans still quoting, "On Wednesdays, we wear pink" and "You can't sit with us!"

Enter Hey Dude, which has tapped into this enduring love for the film in a way that's both fashionable and fan-worthy.
