Klawer teen's killer guilty of chilling crime

A 58-year-old man was yesterday found guilty of hacking to death Klawer teenager Jerobejin van Wyk, cutting up his body and dumping it in drains in 2022.

Daniel Smit was convicted in the Western Province High Court in Cape Town of attempted murder, kidnapping, premeditated murder, violating a corpse and defeating the ends of justice.

Last week, Smit pleaded guilty to all five charges.

He was also charged with reckless and negligent driving.

Smit is accused of murdering the teen in February 2022, after human remains were discovered in sewerage pipes at his property.
