Kitshoff call no surprise

The retirement from rugby of Springbok legend Steven Kitshoff earlier this week did not come as a major surprise to many, but was still a very disappointing outcome.

It was always going to take a miracle to get him back onto the rugby field, after he suffered a serious neck injury for Western Province in their Currie Cup match against Griquas last year, that Kitshoff admitted could have cost him his life.

A serious neck injury is often a death blow to the career of a prop, as even if they are able to return to the field, they are usually very rarely able to get back to the level of play that they once played at.
