JANUARY 8 STATEMENT: PARTY BATTLES TO RECOVER FROM ALL-TIME LOW
A difficult and a challenging situation for Ramaphosa, says political analyst.
As the ANC prepares to deliver its January 8 Statement, all eyes will be on the party to see if it can find grounds for celebration after its dismal performance in last year's national and provincial elections.
ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the party's January 8 Statement at Mandela Park Stadium in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, today. The party marks its 113th anniversary celebration at its weakest point since the elections, losing its parliamentary majority and support in different provinces across the country.
The city of Cape Town said the 2,000-seater stadium can safely accommodate the more than 22,000 ANC supporters expected to attend the much-anticipated event.
North-West University professor and political analyst Andre Duvenhage told eNCA the ANC needs to do a lot of work to regain support.
