Calls for minister to answer on claims to overthrow state

The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party is demanding proof about an alleged coup that has been foiled by the government.

MK party spokesperson Nhl-amulo Ndhlela said Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni "must tell us who, what and where " – and stop politicking".

Despite Ntshavheni's praise of the country's intelligence services, Ndhlela said they are dysfunctional.

"If they have been closing in on coups, why did they fail to prevent the July unrest four years ago?" he asked.

Ndhlela criticised President Cyril Ramaphosa for absorbing the intelligence portfolio into the office of the Presidency.

ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba said Ntshavheni's claims were "nonsense".
